MARIE
resin, charred wood, wood
53”h x 40”w x 68”d, 2016
My mother had Alzheimer’s and so I was compelled to make a piece about dementia. I wanted to convey that even though the disease is what we see of the person today, most sufferers had a full life before they had dementia. I tried to communicate a sense of optimism and even celebration with the posture of the piece, and it is only when one peers around to the back of the head that one discovers that something is wrong. My mother’s middle name is Marie. This piece is cast in polyester resin with charred wood in the back.
